Trickfish Amplification Now Shipping New Bass Pedal Line

Trickfish Amplification Bass Pedal Line

Trickfish Amplification’s booth at NAMM this year was buzzing due to a new amp and a new range of pedals. Now we have the full scoop of the stompbox lineup, which includes the VCA Compressor, the Overdrive Preamp, External Preamp (EPA), and the Signal Filter. Each is designed and manufactured in the the USA.

“These pedals embody Trickfish’s commitment to delivering top-tier sound quality and dynamic musicality, providing smart and user-friendly tools to help bassists achieve their ideal sound on stage and in the studio,” the company writes. “All of the Trickfish stompbox pedals feature a high-quality angled steel chassis, smooth taper knobs, top-mounted jacks, easy to read graphics and are powered by standard 9V DC pedalboard power supply-compatible jacks.”

The VCA Compressor is described as threading the needle between transparent studio compression and the tonal enhancement of vintage compressor pedals. It has four knobs – Threshold, Level, Ratio, and Blend – to dial in your compression.

The Overdrive Preamp was designed to offer a warm, smooth, creamy overdrive that retains your low end. To do this, they made it a soft clipping overdrive with a dry blend knob for mixing in as much of your clean signal as you like. From there, a 3-band EQ lets you tailor the pedal’s tones.

The External Preamp is the same as their on-board IPA (Internal Preamp), but in a handy pedal format. It lets you get the “Trickfish sound” from its specially voiced 3-band EQ. Just like the IPA, you can also choose between two frequency points per band via dip switchs on the back of the circuit board.

Finally, the Signal Filter is a unit that combines a Hi-pass filter and a Lo-pass filter. Each band has its own variable frequency knob while the Hi-pass also has a gain control.

“As opposed to traditional EQ which boosts and cuts at a set frequency with sloping curves on either side, the Signal Filter uses dual, independently selectable filters that offer a steep cut at 24db per octave on the bass range starting at 38Hz all the way up to 310hz, and on the treble range from 330hz all the way down to 15kHz,” the company explains. “This allows you to curb the highs and/or the lows while keeping the remaining inside frequencies fully intact. Say you like the sound of your bass but the low end is too boomy on stage? No problem, just dial up the High Pass until your sound is tightened up but still full and beefy. Maybe your bass sounds great but is a little bright or ‘clanky’ up top? Just dial back the Low Pass until it sounds sufficiently warmed up but retains the right amount of punch and articulation needed.”

The Trickfish Amplification Pedals are shipping now. The VCA Compressor has a price of $249, the Overdrive Preamp goes for $229, the Signal Filter for $219, and the External Preamp for $219.
