HAYWARD — A local independent rapper is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly robbing a man on New Year’s Day after learning the victim’s female companion did not want to have sex with him, according to court records.

Kwame Walker, 23, was charged in Alameda County with robbery, false imprisonment, burglary and illegal firearm activity, and remains at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where his bail has been set at $150,000. He has pleaded not guilty and is next due in court April 23, where a judge will consider a motion to lower his bail or release him, records show.

Walker was charged in March, more than two months after he allegedly robbed a man of valuables worth $1,400. According to police, it all started when Walker met a man and woman at a downtown Hayward nightclub on the evening of Jan. 1, and accompanied them to their nearby home.

Once at the home, Walker told the man he had a romantic interest in the woman, but allegedly became angry when he learned the woman wasn’t interested in him. A police probable cause statement claims Walker then pulled a gun on the man outside the residence, took a bracelet and cellphone from him and held the man hostage for two hours until the man agreed to let Walker into the home.

Once inside, the victim yelled for help and other family members came into the living room, prompting Walker to flee the area, according to police. The evidence against him reportedly includes surveillance footage from the residence, according to court records.

Walker is a local rapper who uses the stage name Kwame Kayda and is also the CEO of an entertainment company known as Cold Hearted Entertainment, according to authorities. His preliminary hearing has been set for April 29.
