Five-time All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors paid close attention to Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday's recent contract extension, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe.

On the latest edition of The Lowe Post, Lowe revealed that both Thompson and the Warriors "took note" of Holiday's four-year, $135 million extension that he signed with the Celtics on April 10 (13:40 mark).

Thompson is currently set to hit unrestricted free agency in the offseason.

During the 2023-24 season, he played out the remainder of a five-year, $190 million contract that he signed with the team in 2019. Thompson has spent his entire career with Golden State after he was selected with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2011 draft.

The 34-year-old sharpshooter is coming off a season in which he struggled with consistency, as his scoring average of 17.9 points per game represented his worst mark since 2013. He also shot a relatively low 38.7 percent from three-point range, the second-lowest percentage of his career.

Head coach Steve Kerr even experimented with utilizing the veteran as a reserve, as he came off the bench in 14 games during the season.

Shams Charania of The Athletic previously revealed that Thompson rejected a two-year, $48 million extension from the Warriors during the 2023 offseason. With both sides reportedly taking note of Holiday's new deal, they may be eyeing a long-term contract instead.

Golden State's front office will likely take the team's cap situation into account during potential negotiations, as the organization already has $174 million in salary commitments for the 2024-25 season (per ESPN's Bobby Marks).

Opposing teams are expected to be interested in his ability to space the floor, as Sam Amick of The Athletic listed the Dallas Mavericks as a potential suitor for Thompson in free agency.

A long-term deal similar to Holiday's would likely keep Thompson in the Bay Area, though.
