Red Sox place Brayan Bello on 15-day injured list

Bello has been dealing with right lat tightness since his most recent start.

Brayan Bello is being placed on the injured list.

The Red Sox announced that starting pitcher Bryan Bello has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with what the team labeled as “right lat tightness.”

The move is retroactive to April 21. Right-hander Zack Kelly was called up from Boston’s Triple-A affiliate to take Bello’s place.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told WEEI that the team is holding Bello out as a precaution after he felt tightness following his most recent start on April 19.

Bello, 24, is 3-1 with a 3.04 ERA in five starts so far in 2024. Bello being sidelined adds to an already lengthy list of Boston players currently injured. Cora noted in his radio interview that starter Nick Pivetta is nearing a possible rehab start, while Garrett Whitlock’s status is improving after also being placed on the IL with a strained oblique.
