Marvin Harrison Jr. Says His 'Goal is to Be the Best Receiver' in NFL History

Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. is setting modest aims for his career as he prepares to hear his name called in the 2024 NFL draft.

"My goal is to be best receiver to ever play," he said in an interview with ESPN's Marty Smith.

That's a common target for any young athlete entering the pros. In the case of Harrison, you feel like there's actually a chance he can make good on the statement.

The 21-year-old grew up around one of the most prolific pass-catchers of his generation. The elder Marvin Harrison is fifth all-time in receptions and touchdown catches and ninth in receiving yards.

Harrison also looked like an elite talent by the time he was wrapping up his sophomore year with the Buckeyes. He might've been a top-10 pick if he had been eligible to enter the 2023 NFL draft.

"Harrison is a slam-dunk prospect," Bleacher Report NFL scout Derrik Klassen wrote in his evaluation of Harrison. "He is a twitched-up athlete with polished route-running ability and elite ball skills. It's so easy to see how his game translates right away. Harrison would be an instant No. 1 WR for most offenses."

The odds are against Harrison eclipsing Jerry Rice as the consensus GOAT receiver pick by the time his time in the NFL is over. Would it be a surprise to see him insert himself into the position's inner circle? Not really.
