Spencer Rattler, Joe Milton III's Top Landing Spots After Day 1 of 2024 NFL Draft

The first day of the NFL draft is complete, and six (yes, six!) quarterbacks are officially off the board—Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears), Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders), Drake Maye (New England Patriots), Michael Penix Jr. (Atlanta Falcons), J.J. McCarthy (Minnesota Vikings) and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos).

That leaves a number of intriguing quarterbacks for teams to consider, including South Carolina's Spencer Rattler (the No. 66 prospect in this year's draft, according to the B/R NFL Scouting Department's big board) and Tennessee's Joe Milton III (not ranked in the top-250).

And there are a number of teams who should potentially be in the market for a rookie at the position. Let's break down which would be fits for Rattler and Milton.

Daniel Jones isn't the answer at quarterback, and at some point the Giants are going to have to address that fact. They chose not to do so in the first round, but either immediate competition for Jones in a player like Rattler or a long-term option to groom behind him in Milton would make sense for New York.

Obviously Aaron Rodgers is the starter and Tyrod Taylor is the backup, but adding a long-term prospect to groom in Milton would make a lot of sense. It wouldn't be the first time a team drafted Rodgers' eventual successor, and it sure worked out nicely for the Green Bay Packers with Jordan Love.

The Raiders will have Gardner Minshew II and Aidan O'Connell to battle for QB1 duties in 2024, but neither is the long-term answer at the position. Rattler would enter the quarterback competition immediately, while Milton would provide a long-term project.

This may feel like a weird one, but Buffalo is a great landing spot for Milton. Yes, Josh Allen isn't going anywhere anytime soon—and the team has Mitchell Trubisky in place as a short-term backup—but the Bills could groom Milton to be Allen's long-term backup, or a player they eventually flip in a trade if he shows positive development.

The book on Milton is that he's big, athletic and has a rocket for an arm—sound familiar? Learning under a similar archetype of player in Allen—who it must be noted is far more polished and consistent than Milton and processes at a higher level, at least to this point in MIlton's development—could be excellent for the incoming rookie's career.

Matthew Stafford is 36 and the Rams may not see Stetson Bennett as a legitimate successor. It wouldn't be shocking to see the team lock down a potential quarterback of the future. Rattler is a player to watch when the Rams are next on the clock.
