With the iPhone 15 available for almost eight months now, Apple is still promoting this device. In its latest ad, the company focuses on one of its best features: Precision Find function to find friends, an exclusive feature that’s only available to iPhone 15 and 15 Pro users.

While Precision Find itself has been available since the iPhone 11 thanks to the U1 chip to help improve AirDrop usage and find AirTags and AirPods Pro 2, the second generation ultrawide-band chip (it’s not called U2) expands the range of connection and, for now, it’s main feature is the possibility to find friends and family members using Precision Find, as if you’re looking for an AirTag.

To do that, follow these steps:

  • Open the Find My app on your iPhone.
  • Tap the “People” tab and select the friend you want to find.
  • Then, tap “Find” to start using Precision Find.

If instead of “Find,” there’s a “Directions” button, you need to keep moving until you’re in the range of the other person’s chip. In addition, they will receive a message saying you’re trying to find them.

This iPhone 15 ad is very heartwarming and follows the story of a Star Wars fan dressed up as the Mandalorian for a conference with friends. During his journey to the event, Apple highlighted several features of the iPhone, such as water resistance, Apple Pay support, and, later, the ability to find your friends with Precision Finding.

While sometimes Apple ads can be inaccurate, I once found myself in a similar situation to the guy in this ad, and I was able to find a friend during a Taylor Swift concert. Even with over 50,000 people around me and poor 5G connectivity, Precision Find worked flawlessly and I could locate my friend when I was around 100 feet from him. As I wrote:

Once the Precision Find started working, it was super easy to locate my friend. Like an AirTag, Precision Find on iPhone 15 gives you the exact location, and I was surprised it worked so well. After all, Apple’s claim that you can find a friend in a crowd is true, but there are a few requirements to make it work.

That said, even with the iPhone 15 lineup nearing its end and rumors about the iPhone 16 ramping up, this is definitely a feature worth considering when upgrading to a new phone. You can watch the ad below.
