Sam Huard, the former five-star quarterback who set Washington preps passing records at Kennedy Catholic High School in Burien, is transferring to Utah after spending one season at Cal Poly, according to multiple reports.

The Bellevue native started his career at Washington. He spent two seasons with the Huskies, following in the footsteps of his father, Damon Huard, and his uncle, Brock Huard.

Sam Huard appeared in five games for the Huskies. He made his lone start in the 2021 Apple Cup, a 40-13 loss to cross-state rival Washington State about two weeks after coach Jimmy Lake was fired.

The 6-foot-2, left-handed quarterback spent one season as a backup behind Michael Penix Jr. in 2022 before transferring to Cal Poly for the 2023 season. The move reunited him with former Kennedy Catholic coach Sheldon Cross, who was the Mustangs’ offensive coordinator. Huard played in nine games for Cal Poly, passing for 2,247 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Cross departed for Stetson in April, and Huard entered the transfer portal. He heads to Utah with two years of eligibility remaining and will likely back up seventh-year quarterback Cameron Rising as the Utes prepare for their first season in the Big 12.
