A New Hampshire-based content creator whose primary focus is food and restaurants in Boston and New England was seriously injured following a car crash this week, according to reports.

The family of Joey Calcavecchia, known on social media as The Roaming Foodie, told Boston 25 News he was involved in a car pile-up Tuesday just before 1 a.m. State Police confirmed that a crash involving four vehicles happened at 12:47 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 93 North near exit 42 in Andover.

The State Police spokesperson said two people were taken away from the scene in an ambulance, one of them seriously injured. The spokesperson also confirmed that one of the injured was 36-year-old Calcavecchia.

Though the wreck is still under investigation, State Police said a “deer in the roadway was a factor in the crash.”

According to his father, Joe Calcavecchia, who spoke to Boston 25 News, Joey was taken to Tufts Medical Center with a collapsed lung, broken ribs, a cracked skull, and facial fractures. He is also on a ventilator.

“He just hit it head-on at full speed,” Joey’s dad said. “It’s a parent’s worst nightmare.”

Joey has shared photos and videos of meals as The Roaming Foodie since at least 2015 and has amassed over 100,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram. His sister, Jenna Calcavecchia, wrote on a GoFundMe page for Joey that he was working on creating content for The Roaming Foodie the day of the crash.

His family created the GoFundMe page to raise money for his medical bills, a new car, to replace work equipment damaged in the wreck, and “everyday expenses” as he’s out of work to recover.

“For those that know Joey, he is [the] best son, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend that ANYONE could ask for,” his sister wrote on the GoFundMe page. “He is kind, funny, smart, sociable, creative, and hardworking.”

The initial goal was to raise $50,000, but the family said they raised the fundraising amount to $100,000 after receiving news about Joey’s extensive recovery. As of Friday afternoon, nearly $69,000 has been raised by 1,400 donations.
