KANSAS CITY, MO. — A Bay Area fugitive has been arrested here and brought back to Alameda County, where he faces charges of murdering two women.

The arrest of 31-year-old Howard Reed was announced Friday, the same day records show he was booked at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. Reed was wanted on charges of murdering 32-year-old Jingwei “Melanie” Zhang and 38-year-old Dorothy Mak inside a home on the 15000 block of Dermody Avenue in San Lorenzo. It is believed the victims were killed on or around May 1, but weren’t discovered for several days later.

District Attorney Pamela Price said in a news release that the shooting was an example of “intimate partner violence” involving a firearm.

“Perhaps these two women would still be with us if he had not had a gun,” Price said. “Now that Mr. Reed has been captured and returned to Alameda County to face justice for this tragic crime, my office will hold him accountable on behalf of the two victims and their families.”

Reed faces 50 years to life if convicted of both murder counts.
