People who use standing desks may be onto something.A study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that standing could help fight the battle against weight gain caused by frequent sitting. Women burn 0.1 calories per minute more while standing than they do when sitting, and men burn 0.19 calories more. Though this may seem like a minuscule amount, opting to stand for six hours a day would help a 143-pound person burn an extra 54 calories a day, which adds up to 5.5 pounds of fat over a one year period.
