Final Launches Groundbreaking D7000 Planar-Magnetic Headphones

Following

It’s been a day for headphone announcements at this year’s High-End Show in Munich. Earlier today, Focal announced two new headphones and now it’s the turn of high-end Japanese headphone brand Final. The company has unveiled its new D7000 flagship planar-magnetic headphones featuring enhanced AFDS driver technology and a newly developed pinner-aligned diffuser.

The all-new D7000 headphones are Final’s open-back planar magnetic flagship model containing Final’s own magnetic-planar driver technology used in the award-winning D8000 headphones. Since then, the company has improved its Air Film Damping System (AFDS) to make the drivers more efficient so they can produce extended bass frequencies.

A machined aluminum-magnesium alloy is used for the D7000 housing. As well as being lightweight, the materials enable the D7000 housing to be machined with great precision to get the most out of the AFDS and advanced driver technology.

Final says the D7000 have a “unique sound signature” that balances the delicate high frequencies that are characteristic of planar magnetic technology with the power and open low frequencies that you get from dynamic drivers. The headphones deliver high resolutions for vocal and string ranges, producing a rich and smooth sound profile.

With conventional planar magnetic headphones, the driver unit is normally designed to limit the lowest bass frequency produced. This prevents the diaphragm from encountering the magnet when the playback volume is high. With the D7000, the AFDS solves that issue making it possible to lower the frequency of the bass tones that the driver can reproduce without distortion. This produces a level of bass extension, openness and power beyond regular planar-magnetic drivers.

Final has also developed its new pinna-aligned diffuser for the D7000. The different shapes and sizes of the human ear impact the sound quality of headphones. Final developed the pinna-aligned diffuser to deliver sonic consistency. Lots of simulations tailored to various shapes of the outer ear and hearing experiments were conducted, resulting in the creation of a diffuser shape that Final claims is optimal for all users.

The D7000 include accessories designed to enhance the D7000. Open-type earpads use a unique Washi material, meaning Japanese traditional paper, which has better durability, air permeability, moisture control, and antibacterial/odor-eliminating properties. Final claims the breathable material provides a natural openness that enhances the bass capability of the D7000 AFDS driver.

The headband of the D7000 uses the same Washi material for durability and resistance to moisture. The D7000 also ships with a protective carry case which can store a selection of headphone cables, plus it has a lock for added security. Final has included a high-quality 3m OFC cable terminated with a 6.3mm headphone socket.

Pricing & Availability: The Final D7000 headphones are available now in the US for $3,499 from Audio46 and Bloom Audio. Final's new D7000 planar-magnetic headphones are now available to buy from selected retailers worldwide including Audio46 (US) and Premium Sound (UK) for $3,499 / £2,999. Also available now in the UK from Premium Sound, Hifonix and Audiologica for £2,999.
