BRENTWOOD — A suspect who robbed a bank Wednesday led police on a chase on Highway 4 before abandoning his vehicle in an Antioch neighborhood, authorities said.
According to a statement, officers responded to Tri Counties Bank, 2400 Sand Creek Road, around 1:30 p.m. for a report of the robbery.
Officers ariving there learned a man entered, gave a note demanding cash to a bank teller and fled the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount. There was no sign of a weapon and no reported injuries, police said.
An officer patroling nearby who received a suspect vehicle description police declined to share spotted a similar car and followed it westbound along Highway 4 at Lone Tree Way.
Moments later, the car’s driver stopped in the 2100 block of Peppertree Way in Antioch before fleeing on foot. Police eventually apprehended him in the area and arrested him on suspicion of bank robbery and felony reckless evading.
On Thursday, police said the suspect was a 26-year-old Antioch man. He was being held on $150,000 bail at the Martinez Detention Facility. Authorities said he had several outstanding arrest warrants for unspecified incidents.
