Boston University Hires Jay Pandolfo As Men’s Head Coach

Boston University has filled their vacant men’s hockey head coaching position by naming alum Jay Pandolfo as the team’s next head coach.

Pandolfo was a four-year standout for the Terriers in the mid-’90s, helping Boston University make the Frozen Four in each of his four seasons, including a national title win in 1995. Pandolfo captained Boston University in his senior season of ‘95-’96, helping lead the team through the trauma of a horrific injury to teammate Travis Roy at the beginning of the season to being arguably the best team in the country.

After Boston University, Pandolfo had a long pro career that included 899 games at the NHL level, winning Stanley Cups with the New Jersey Devils in 2000 and 2003.

He transitioned to coaching after his retirement from pro hockey, serving as an assistant coach with the Boston Bruins from 2014-2021. This past summer, Pandolfo was named associate head coach at Boston University under Albie O’Connell.

Like the vacant Michigan State coaching position that was filled earlier this week, Pandolfo doesn’t bring a lot of direct college hockey experience, but does bring a lot of hockey knowledge from the upper levels of hockey, and has deep ties to his respective program.
