Simple, open-source app that brings the Windows Task Manager experience on Linux. #Windows Task Manager #Linux Task Manager #Task Manager #Task #Manager #Process
When it comes to system monitors on Linux, there are tons of nice options.
From the task manager apps that most Linux distros have by default, to more comprehensive and advanced apps, to simple yet efficient command-line ones, there's a task manager for everybody out there.
Be that as it may, if you've recently made the switch from Windows to Linux, and if you miss the functionality of Windows' Task Manager, then good news: you can try SysMonTask.
Described as a "Linux system monitor with the compactness and usefulness of Windows Task Manager to allow higher control and monitoring," SysMonTask is a Python-based, free, and open-source system monitor.
It boasts most of the functionality of the app it emulates. You get system monitoring graphs, the ability to view stats for CPU, Memory, Disks, Network adapters, and even single NVIDIA GPUs.
It also displays all mounted disks, and supports system themes (both Dark and Light). The Processes tab is quite useful as it provides you with a simple way of filtering and managing processes.
In short, looks aside, SysMonTask is a decent, little task manager for Linux, that's also very light on resources. One could make an argument that it's a bit better than most other system monitors out there since it also includes disk performance monitors, as well as GPU stats.
Even though the app is written in Python, it doesn't feature (at the time of this writing) installers for all Linux distributions. Thankfully, it does have RPM and DEB installers, which should make most Fedora and Ubuntu, as well as other Debian-based distro users happy.
SysMonTask is an interesting app that offers way more than just looks. Yes, it is designed to emulate the Windows Task Manager, but the truth of the matter is that it's a solid app on its own, as it provides users with enough control and features to make it worth their attention. Just don't expect it to pop up when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
