LA HABRA, Calif. (AP) — A suspected drunk driver and his passenger were killed after crashing into another car following a high-speed police chase in Southern California, authorities said.

The driver of the second car was hospitalized with minor injuries following the collision late Friday in Rowland Heights, southeast of Los Angeles, CBS LA reported.

The chase began in nearby La Habra when an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop for a possible drunk driver shortly after 10:30 p.m., according to Sgt. Erik Roy of the La Habra Police Department.

The driver initially appeared to yield, before speeding off and leading police on a pursuit, Roy said.

The driver and passenger, who were not immediately identified, died at the scene of the crash, he said.
