When Founder and CEO, Todd Weaver, saw his kids interact with digital devices, he was concerned about their privacy online. He decided to start the movement of respectful technologies for the next generation. After a lifetime of work as an engineer, developer, architect, and advocate for Free and Open Software, it was his role as father that solidified his next business mission. Purism started in 2014, with the focused intent to build secure products that respect digital freedom.
Purism was started with a clear vision to build hardware that respected a users’ essential freedoms and privacy. It is a different from a for-profit only company, it is a Social Purpose Corporation, dedicated to building secure alternatives for humanity. The Librem line of mobile phones, laptops and mini computers are mindfully designed by the Purism team. Weaver started the company with crowdfunding a 15-inch laptop with a quarter million-dollar funding goal. In the past 8 years, with your support, the team achieved that and more.
With the support of its investors, customers and backers, Purism team has developed a growing portfolio of mobile and computing products. And recently, made its foray into services. Purism has a sophisticated portfolio of digitally responsible, high-quality, and safe products, services, and tech add-ons that allow people the freedom and the choice to ‘opt-in’ to features of Big Tech.
