Braswell, Grant Advance to ITA All-American Championships Qualifying Draw

The Gators won 13 of 17 matches in the pre-qualifying singles draw.

TULSA, Okla. – Jonah Braswell and Will Grant went undefeated in the ITA All-American Championships singles pre-qualifying to advance to the singles qualifying draw starting tomorrow on Monday, Oct. 3.

The Gators were tremendous throughout the entire pre-qualifying, as the team went 13-4 overall. Braswell and Grant led with four wins each on their way to earning their spots in qualifying.

The freshman Braswell, making his collegiate debut, ran rampant through his competition. The Sarasota, Fla. native failed to drop a set in his first three matches and won his seventh straight set to begin his final match of pre-qualifying against Nathan Cox of Vanderbilt. After going up 6-2, Cox responded in the second set 6-3, but Braswell comfortably finished the match off in the third set, 6-1, to advance.

Grant was also on a roll in his four victories, as the junior won six straight sets on his way to clinching an opportunity in the qualifying draw. The Boca Raton, Fla. native dropped one set in his first-round victory over LSU's George Stoupe and never looked back. Grant beat UNC's Christopher LI in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 (4), in his final match of pre-qualifying.

Togan Tokac notched his first career collegiate win in the tournament by defeating Ryoma Mishiro of Omaha, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, in the first round. The native of Turkey won his next two matches before falling in the final round to LSU's Julien Penzlin, 6-1, 6-3.

Lukas Greif got off to a great start winning his first two matches, including a victory over Evin McDonald of Texas in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. The senior had the upper hand over the SEC-foe Angel Diaz of Tennessee after winning the first set, but Diaz bounced back winning the third round match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

UP NEXT: The Gators will now have three players in the first round of qualifying. No. 91 Nate Bonetto meets Holden Koons of James Madison, Braswell faces No. 52 Nemanja Malesevic of Mississippi State and Grant plays Timothy Carlsson Seger of Tulsa.

Florida also has three pairs of doubles competing in qualifying. Bonetto/Greif is up against Yale duo Theo Dean and Michael Sun. Grant/Axel Nefve is matched with No. 36 pair of Peter Makk and Lodewijk Weststrate from Southern Cal. Nirundorn/Tokac takes on No. 26 combo of Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli of NC State.
