The Motet Blend Funk, Soul, and Dance on “All Day”

The Motet just released their tenth studio album, All Day, which marks their first instrumental record since 2009’s Dig Deep. With tracks written by all five members of the band, their new effort is a masterclass in hard-driving funk, groovy soul, and dance beats.

“All Day is something I say when I like something so much I could do it ‘all day’ – playing music definitely fits there,” says keyboardist Joey Porter. “Instrumental music has been a staple of The Motet repertoire since the conception of the band, especially live. Individually, instrumental music has been the majority of what we have all played in our careers, so it’s natural for us to have an instrumental album. I’m also excited that there were songs written by every member of the band.”

Bassist Garrett Sayers locks in with drummer Dave Watts for a killer pocket over the ten songs. Sayers penned two of the album’s songs with the “Heathen” and “False Prophets,” which a press release succinctly describes as “[oscillating] between enveloping psychedelia and dancey-rock catharsis imbued with jazz saxophone solos.” Of course, Sayers drops in some sick bass fills in for good measure.

All Day is available now on digital platforms including Bandcamp, iTunes, and Amazon MP3. The Motet will be on tour through February and March across the U.S. See below for dates.
