CHICO — Officers with the Chico Police Department arrested a man around noon Wednesday who was accompanied by a missing girl in a camp at upper Bidwell Park, according to a department press release.

Police said they arrested 23-year-old Rory Murga on suspicion of an outstanding warrant. According to the release, officers allegedly found him with a 16-year-old girl reported missing by the Orange Police Department in Orange County.

Police received a missing juvenile report Tuesday night about a girl who is thought to have fled from her parents and traveled to Chico with Murga, who was reportedly wanted for a felony, no-bail warrant issued by Los Angeles County Court.

Chico police said they received information the girl and Murga were camping along the cliff edge of the north-rim portion of upper Bidwell Park between Bear Hole and the power lines.

Police used binoculars to identify the camp and sent a surveillance drone which led to police positively identifying Murga, the press release said.

Units from the Target Team and detective bureau arrived at the camp around noon and detained Murga and the missing girl without incident, the press release said.

Police said the girl was reunited with her parents and her missing person status was cleared.

Murga was placed into custody in relation to the outstanding warrant, the press release said.
