Dreaming up these scenarios is totally normal—and an absolute thrill, thanks to the chemical cocktail of dopamine and adrenaline your brain gets when you take risks, explains sex therapist Jenni Skyler, PhD. Actually following through on these fantasies, well…you can imagine what that feels like. This especially applies to couples who’ve been together for a while and whose sex life has fallen into a bit of a routine. “That's difficult to replicate in long-term relationships,” says Dr. Skyler. “Thus, spontaneous, adventurous sex can achieve a somewhat similar thrill.”
