NBA rumors: Franz Wagner on Wendell Carter Jr.: 'I think he’s our anchor for our defense when he’s out there'

You guys have been playing without Wendell Carter Jr. for a while. What can he bring when he’s back from injury? Franz Wagner: Wendell is extremely versatile for a big man, which makes it super easy to play with him. He’s obviously a big lob threat and super quick out of pick-and-rolls to roll and put pressure on the defense that way. He can shoot it as well. I think the biggest thing is defensively. You can switch with him and play any type of coverage with him in the pick-and-roll. I think he’s our anchor for our defense when he’s out there. I can’t wait for him to be back.

Knicks want to speak to Jason Kidd about their coaching job

The New York Knicks are expected to formally request permission to speak to the Dallas Mavericks’ Jason Kidd about their coaching vacancy in coming days, league sources say. As The Stein Line first reported Tuesday night, New York has interest in hiring Kidd after firing Tom Thibodeau earlier this week. That interest has since been described by league sources as serious.
In today’s NBA, where positionless basketball and player versatility are at a premium, Bender often hears the “you were ahead of your time” talk. “You see a guy like KD, and you’re like — okay, that’s what I was trying to do,” Bender says. “But KD? That dude took it to another stratosphere. He stayed healthy. That’s the difference. I tip my hat to him.” When we talk about how the league has changed — how a seven-footer pulling up from 30 is now normal — Bender smiles. “I love it. Let them cook. I just hope these young dudes are investing in their bodies. Don’t wait until the pain starts.”

So Shaq is one of the few people that knows what Giannis might be feeling right now, and he gave some surprising advice to the superstar, via Yahoo Sports: “I would tell him that, probably, a bigger market doesn’t matter. Social media is the market now. Giannis has made a name for himself on social media. If you go to L.A., 50% of your contract goes to taxes, more pressure and more stress. Being that he’s in control of that ship, he should go upstairs and be like ‘I want to see all the free agents, I want phone numbers and I want to talk to them.’ He should bring people to him. When I was coming up, it was small market was too small, probably need to go to a big market. But now, every market is the same. Nobody cares what city you’re in, this ain’t the ’90s.”
“I’m not the biggest Ace Bailey guy. Personally, if I’m Philadelphia, I’d be very, very open to trading down. I’ve heard the Pelicans at number seven like Ace Bailey. Joe Dumars there — sounds like he really likes Ace Bailey. Could try to trade up to number three to Philly or number four with Charlotte. That to me is the best-case scenario for the Sixers — you trade down from three to seven, New Orleans gets their guy, and you can probably still get Malawatch. I don’t know if Trey Johnson would be there at seven, but Malawatch — I don’t see it at four or five.”

Michael Jordan has taken a major loss off the racetrack. Jordan’s 23XI Racing, and Front Row Motorsports, are now at risk of losing their NASCAR charter status—the sport’s version of franchises—as the entities’ legal battles continue. On Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit vacated a preliminary injunction, ordered in December by a U.S. District Court in North Carolina, that required NASCAR to treat 23XI and Front Row as chartered teams for the 2025 season.
