Indiana State vs. Utah

Utah's dominant 74-54 victory over VCU on Wednesday has the Utes set to battle top-seeded Indiana State in the NIT semifinals.

Utah has been playing terrific team basketball on both ends of the court throughout the NIT. The Utes' ability to move the ball and create favorable shot opportunities—they had 21 assists on Wednesday—will be valuable against a talented Indiana State team.

Slowing leading scorer Branden Carlson and do-it-all guard Deivon Smith might be the Sycamores' key to success, but it won't be easy because of the movement Utah generates.

Utah has the players and the play style needed to advance to Thursday's title game, but ISU will be a formidable foe. The Sycamores may also bring a bit of a home-court advantage on the hour-plus trip from Terre Haute to Indianapolis.

That advantage has been a factor during Indiana State's three-game winning streak.

"You got to have fans that bring energy and passion, and I think we've seen that when you come to the Hulman Center," ISU head coach Josh Schertz said, per Akeem Glaspie of the Indianapolis Star.

Offensively, Robbie Avila (17.3 points per game) and Ryan Conwell (16.6 points per game) are the Sycamores' biggest threats. ISU will likely need to lean on its offense, as efficient defense hasn't exactly been a strength.

Indiana State ranks third nationwide in field-goal percentage (.504) but just 167th in field-goal percentage allowed (.436). Utah has fared better defensively (94th in opposing field-goal percentage), but the stage is set for an exciting offensive battle in Tuesday's opener.

Seton Hall vs. Georgia

Seton Hall isn't a powerhouse on either end of the court—the team ranks 146th in made field goals per game and 136th in field goals allowed per game. However, great team chemistry has made the Pirates a powerhouse in the NIT.

Seton Hall bested UNLV 91-68 on Wednesday and has won its last two games by a combined 37 points.

Led by seniors like Dre Davis, Kadary Richmond and Al-Amir Dawes, the Pirates are seasoned and have fully accepted the challenge of competing in the NIT—unlike a few schools who opted to bypass the NIT after failing to secure an NCAA tournament bid.

"This a great feeling, after coming together, us five seniors saying, 'If we're going to do it, we're going to do it to win it all,'" Richmond said, per Jerry Carino of the Asbury Park Press.

Georgia is coming off a close 79-77 win over Ohio State, and the Bulldogs are making the most of their NIT opportunity, which they received when Mississippi declined an invitation. It hasn't been an easy run, but Georgia is now a win away from the title game.

"Really proud of these guys," Georgia head coach Mike White said, per Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. "Really tough environment the other day. Even tougher environment tonight. Been on the road a while. It seems like a month."

Georgia is a rebuilding program that is in its first tournament (NIT or NCAA) since the 2017 season. Seton Hall has the edge in experience, but a big game from leading scorer Noah Thomasson (13.1 points per game) or impressive freshman Silas Demary Jr. could open the door for the Bulldogs.
