NEW DELHI: Nato aircraft were deployed in response to an overnight Russian missile attack targeting Ukraine, according to Poland's military. The intensity of the situation led to heightened aviation activity, with measures implemented to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stated on X, formerly Twitter, that there was "intense long-range aviation activity of the Russian Federation, related to missile strikes against objects located in the territory of Ukraine." This prompted immediate action to safeguard Polish airspace with the deployment of on-duty aircraft, which may have increased noise levels, particularly in the southeastern part of the country, a Newsweek report said.

The official statement from the Operational Command read: "All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace have been launched, and DO RSZ is monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis. On-duty aircraft have started operating in the airspace, which may result in increased noise levels, especially in the southeastern part of the country."
However, the situation later stabilized, leading to a reduction in the perceived threat level. "Due to a reduced level of threat," the operations of the on-duty aircraft in Polish airspace were concluded, and the resources returned to standard operational activities," the Polish military later announced.
This response comes amidst a broader context of Nato's readiness and vigilance in Eastern Europe, especially given the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This incident underscores the ongoing tensions and the precarious security situation that continues to affect the region.
Newsweek has reached out to the Polish Armed Forces for further comments on the incident. The situation remains fluid, and more updates are expected as they become available.
