Discussion: Which jersey should the Lions wear for their first primetime game in 2024?

The Lions should have a bunch of primetime games again in the 2024 season. Which jersey should they wear for their first night game at Ford Field?

Finally, they are here. After a lot of anticipation (and a leak thanks to our not-so-good friends over at Fanatics) the Detroit Lions rolled out their new uniforms in front of a group of season ticket holders at Ford Field during a special event on Thursday night.

Our staff has already been hard at work breaking the uniform-release down. Our producer Jeremy Reisman detailed the jerseys shortly after their release, while senior editor Ryan Mathews explained why he believes the Lions definitely got this revamp right.

To put things simply: it was worth the wait. These are beautiful. The Lions did such a fantastic job of blending tradition from the days of the 1990s, while also taking a step in a more modern direction for today’s game. From the font of the numbers to the small details like having ‘One Pride’ and ‘Motor City’ inscribed on the collar. It was a delicate balance that they managed in a masterful way.

I don’t know about you, but I immediately began picturing the Lions rocking these during the upcoming 2024 season and got excited. And because we know this is America’s team, we can likely expect another handful of primetime games coming up for the Lions.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Which jersey should the Lions wear for their first primetime game in 2024?

My Answer: Hopefully my good friend Hamza Baccouche doesn’t see this, but I love the black jerseys. Originally when there were whispers of black uniforms making their return to Detroit, I was skeptical.

It’s never been about the aesthetics for me, either. It was about the feelings those jerseys brought back up. Having been born in 1990, I am a true-blue 90s baby. And as good as Hall of Fame receiver Calvin Johnson looked in those all black jerseys from the early 2000s, the football being played during that era was tough to watch.

However, when Lions’ safety Kerby Joseph ran out on stage in his black jersey, I felt none of those old feelings. The last few years, and especially the run in 2023 exorcised so many demons for Lions fans all over the world, and the same can be said for me.

The black jerseys with the blue pants, and new blue helmet with the modern logo may be the best combination. The players already love them and they would be my selection for the Lions when they host their first primetime game of 2024 inside the friendly confines of Ford Field.

How about you? What jerseys do you think the Lions should rock during their first primetime game at Ford Field? Let us know in the comments by scrolling down to the bottom of the page.
