We won’t control events, the course of others’ behaviors, their choices, or how each one decides to live. At most, we can plan our actions and hope they turn out well. Therefore, wisdom is controlling how we react to what happens to us.
We need to understand that people come from different places, have gone through unique experiences, carrying within them very peculiar baggage.
Life knocks everyone down, in one way or another, and each person deals with it in their own way. Each individual is a universe, fortunately, and will respond to what comes their way according to the beats of their own heart. Similarly, each person gives what they possess inside, so expecting too much from someone who has little to offer will be fruitless.
There are wounded, lost, unhappy people who don’t know how to deal with their own pain, lack the courage to face their own demons, nor do they truly accept who they are. As a result, they end up spreading around all the poison that corrodes their soul, in a vain attempt to rid themselves of the enormous discomfort that disturbs their thoughts. Their company will be bitterness, and they won’t be able to be loyal and kind, disrespecting anyone they encounter.
There are those who envy any brightness they find around them. They feel small and incapable of achieving anything themselves, and thus wish for everyone around them to fail. Instead of using their abilities to reach where others are, they try to destroy the envied, with dishonest actions, lies, gossip, and defamation. They feel unhappy and incapable, and they will never forgive anyone who manages to achieve any dream. Here are some reasons why we will encounter those who won’t respect us because, in truth, they are people who don’t respect themselves or anyone else.
Therefore, as you continue, you will have to refuse to be disrespected, setting boundaries, refusing to listen to what you shouldn’t, to accept what doesn’t belong to you, to receive less than you deserve, distancing yourself from places and people where your dignity is trampled, where your truths are disregarded, where you have to humiliate yourself to be heard.
This is how you will be able to live what makes your heart beat without drowning in unspoken words and buried desires under the whims and caprices of those who don’t respect who you truly are.
