School centennial

The Fremont Union High School District is hosting a Centennial Celebration for Fremont High School Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The event features open houses at Fremont High School and the district’s adult school, located at 575 and 589 W. Fremont Ave. in Sunnyvale.

A War Memorial Dedication is set for 11:45 a.m. at Fremont High School. The adult school will host demonstrations of its art and dance classes and tours of new classrooms from noon-1:30 p.m.

 Affordable housing opens

Meridian, an affordable housing development in Sunnyvale, was set to hold its grand opening on Tuesday April 23.

Developed by Related California and funded by Housing Trust Silicon Valley, a nonprofit community loan fund, the 90-unit development includes studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom rental units for low-income households. Twenty-three of these units have been prioritized for households with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Tenants were chosen by lottery from among 809 applicants in January.

Meridian consists of seven townhomes located on a 1.44-acre, city-owned site at the northwest corner of West Iowa and South Meridian avenues. The development is for households that earn 30 to 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). Rents run from $1,515 to $3,619.

Spring Dance Festival

To celebrate National Dance Week, sjDANCEco is hosting its Spring Dance Festival April 27-28 at Eastridge Center, 2200 Eastridge Loop in San Jose. The free festival is also the kickoff to sjDANCEco’s 21st season.

Veksler Academy, Dance Expressions and Ace Dance, all based in Sunnyvale, are among more than 60 choreographers and Bay Area dance organizations that will present various styles of dance.
