On Monday afternoon, the Detroit Lions announced new jersey numbers for several players. That includes free agents who are new to the team and a handful of returning players who have opted to change their number for the 2024 season.

Here’s a look at the new jersey numbers:

New players:

  • WR Tre’Quan Smith - 10
  • CB Amik Robertson - 21
  • CB Carlton Davis III - 23
  • OL Netane Muti - 52
  • G Kevin Zeitler - 71
  • EDGE Marcus Davenport - 92
  • EDGE Mathieu Betts - 95
  • DT DJ Reader - 98

Jersey number changes

  • QB Hendon Hooker - 2 (previously 12)
  • QB Nate Sudfeld - 8 (previously 10)
  • WR Daurice Fountain - 12 (previously 84)
  • WR Antoine Green - 18 (previously 80)
  • RB Zonovan Knight - 27 (previously 28)
  • RB Jermar Jefferson - 28 (previously 39)
  • TE Shane Zylstra - 84 (previously 84, but unassigned at the end of the year due to IR)
  • DT Brodric Martin - 99 (previously 98)

Perhaps most notable, is the fact that the No. 1 remains unclaimed after the Lions released Cameron Sutton this offseason. Many wondered if receiver Jameson Williams would be shifting to No. 1, considering he had shown some interest in the number back when Jeff Okudah had it.

Of course, jersey numbers can—and will—continue to change this offseason, particularly when the team opts to make roster cuts at the end of training camp. So if you’re in the market to buy a new uniform—and who isn’t right now?—proceed with a bit of caution knowing that more number changes are likely to come.
