Another year, another U.S. News & World Report high school rankings, another first place for Boston Latin School in Massachusetts.
Yes, the perennial list-topper earned the No. 1 spot again in the Bay State, in the 2024 public school rankings that were released on Tuesday. The exam school took No. 27 on the national list, only one of two Mass. schools in the top 100 (Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Hadley was ranked 100th).
That being said, Massachusetts had the highest percentage of its eligible high schools (43.9%) in the publication’s top 25%, followed by Connecticut (42.9%) and New Jersey (42.1%). And 10.5% of Massachusetts schools, or 37, were in the publication’s top 5%.
The rankings are based on six factors: college readiness (30%), college curriculum breadth (10%), state assessment proficiency (20%), state assessment performance (20%), underserved student performance (10%), and graduation rate (10%).
