02/8More sensitive in situations

More sensitive in situations

Emotional exhaustion can make you feel like you're walking around with your nerves exposed and on eggshells no less! One might find themselves getting more easily upset by things that wouldn't normally bother them or just irritate them way too much. It's almost as if their mental state is like an open wound and something as little as a squeak is acting like pepper on that wound.
And during these times it is very important to soothe yourself and calm yourself down.

03/8Extreme irritability

Extreme irritability

While the constant crying and anxiety are very visible, something that people often miss is their extreme irritability.
When someone is emotionally drained, they are more irritable than usual. Little things that wouldn't normally bother them will suddenly become major annoyances and will result in emotional outbursts. It is almost as if their patience is running out.
To help and get above it, try practicing mindfulness in your daily life. Before reacting, take a few deep breaths and try to understand why you're feeling so on edge, and then address that problem.

04/8Can't concentrate well

Can't concentrate well

Emotional exhaustion can make your brain feel like it's covered in fog. Emotional exhaustion makes focusing on tasks extremely hard and it is harder to remember the little things. One moment you are typing something and the other you forget what word to type next.
While this can be extremely scary and hard, it's not impossible to rise over it. Fight this feeling by breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable pieces and set realistic goals for yourself, without forgetting to take rightful breaks.

05/8You either sleep all day or not at all

You either sleep all day or not at all

Being emotionally drained means a bad sleep pattern is on the way. Your sleep might start to suffer in the sense that at times you have trouble falling asleep, or you wake up multiple times throughout the night, or on other days you just cannot get out of bed and wish to sleep and do nothing else. This is a result of the exhaustion that your body and mind are in a constant fight or flight mode.
To solve this, it is very important to give yourself some time and space. Don't force yourself into sleeping schedules but rather ask your body and mind what they need. Try reading a book, taking a warm bath, or doing some gentle stretches before bed to relax yourself a bit.

06/8Losing interest in activities

Losing interest in activities

Another very underrated sign of emotional exhaustion is losing interest in things that the person used to love earlier. Things that brought joy at a time, might not hold the same appeal anymore. It's almost like the colour has been drained from your favourite activities and their fun has been sucked out by the monster of exhaustion.

But even though you might not feel like it at first, try to reconnect with those hobbies and lift your spirits. Sometimes, you need to push yourself a little instead of sitting down in a slump.

Emotional stress, if left untreated, can turn into physical exhaustion. One might experience more headaches, more crying, more body pain, more knots in the stomach, and what not! This is a truly painful sight not just for the person but also for others around them.
So, if you feel like there is something not right, act as soon as possible. Switch to self-care practices and be kind and loving to yourself so that you do not spiral into an exhaustion state.

08/8Decreased social energy

Decreased social energy

When you're emotionally drained, the last thing you might feel like doing is socialising. It's like you want to curl up in a blanket and shut out the world. And while it's okay to take some time for yourself, isolating yourself completely can actually make things worse.

So, even if it makes you uncomfortable, try to make an effort to stay connected with supportive friends and family members. Even just talking to someone you trust about how you're feeling can make a world of difference.
