A previous version of this article incorrectly said a bill could lead to the forced sale of TikTok's China-based parent company, ByteDance. It could lead to the forced sale of TikTok, not ByteDance. The article has been corrected.

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday passed legislation to ban or force a sale of TikTok, driven by concerns over the popular video sharing app’s Chinese ownership.

President Biden said in a statement that he plans to sign the bill into law on Wednesday. Once it is signed, TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance, will have roughly nine months to sell the app or face a national ban.
