Gators on Tour: Week 16

Horschel secured his eighth victory on Tour after record setting weekend.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Former Gator Billy Horschel topped the leader board this week, notching his eighth career win at the Corales Puntacana Championship. 

PGA Tour Golfers
The PGA Tour was in two places at once with week, with Gators competing in Hilton Head, S.C. and Punta Cana, DR. 

In Hilton Head, Alejandro Tosti continued his run of quality starts, going seven under par on the weekend to finish T-33. The first year PGA Tour member shot 17 birdies and an eagle to close out his tenth tournament this season. Tosti's year has been headlined by his impressive play off the tee, finishing the RBC Heritage with a T-2 performance. He also owns a SG mark Off the Tee value of 4.238, moving the rookie into seventh in the category this season. 

The Gators had three representatives in Punta Cana with Billy Horschel (Win), Tyson Alexander (T-85) and Ryan Celano (Cut) all teeing off. 

Horschel set a tournament record shooting 23 under par on the weekend. The 15 year pro's 1.57 putts per GIR was good for second best among the field and led to 24 birdies and two eagles on the weekend. Horschel's win moved him up to No. 46 in the FedEx Cup rankings and earned him entry to this years PGA Championship in Valhalla. 
 
Korn Ferry Tour Golfers
Former Gators Ricky Castillo (T-37), T.J. Vogel (T-84) and Fred Biondi (Cut) took on Lakewood National for the LECOM Suncoact Classic.

Castillo finished the best of the bunch, shooting four rounds under par to close the weekend 12 under par. Castillo's two eagles on Sunday were good for the fifth most among the field. 

The PGA Tour Champions Golfers
Three Gator Greats competed at the Invited Celebrity Classic. Brian Gay (T-20), Scott Dunlap (T-26) and Chris DiMarco (T-26)  at Las Colinas Country Club.  

Gay continued what has been a great season on the Champions Tour so far, tabbing his fifth top-20 finish of the year. Gay shot two consecutive rounds under par which included seven birdies. He is ranked No. 16 in Schwab Cup points this season. 

What's Next
The PGA Tour will be in New Orleans this weekend for the Zurich Classic. Two former Gators, Tyson Alexander and Billy Horschel will pair up for this weekends tournament which features a best ball (rounds one and three) and alternative shot (rounds two and four) play-style.
Horschel has won in New Orleans twice and is the only individual (2013) and team champion (2018) at the Zurich Classic. Alejandro Tosti will also compete and is paired with two time PGA Tour winner Ted Potter Jr.
 
The Korn Ferry Tour is in Arlington, Texas this weekend for the Veritex bank Classic. Former Gators Ricky Castillo (8:24 a.m.), Yuxin Lin (10:08 a.m.), Fred Biondi (1:59 p.m.) and T.J. Vogel (3:20 p.m.) will all tee off on Thursday. 

The PGA Tour Champions will be in Duluth, Ga. this weekend where the trio of Brian Gay, Scott Dunlap and Chris DiMarco partaking in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic. 

The Florida Gators Men's Golf team travels to St. Simons Island, Ga. on April 24 for the SEC Championship. The first three days featured stroke play with the best eight teams advancing to match play starting April 27.
