In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Matt Miller had the Denver Broncos select Alabama edge-rusher Dallas Turner at No. 12 overall.

Miller is going against the grain somewhat with the pick, with the Broncos needing a long-term solution at quarterback. But the reasoning makes sense, especially after Miller reported that "enough people" think Denver is looking to "beef up its pass rush" before going QB.

"The Broncos have been connected to Oregon quarterback Bo Nix in this spot, but this is simply too early for him, making it hard to imagine the Broncos sacrificing so much in value to get the fifth quarterback on the board. Perhaps Denver would attempt to trade back since it doesn't have a second-rounder, but a few conversations this week led me to Turner here.

"There are enough people who believe Denver will look to beef up its pass rush first and potentially make a move for a quarterback in a secondary trade up, and it makes sense. The Broncos' 3-4 defense doesn't have a double-digit sack performer, and Turner's first-step speed, length and bend around the edge would fit well in an outside linebacker role."

The Broncos may be out of luck on acquiring the first four quarterbacks on many big boards (USC's Caleb Williams, LSU's Jayden Daniels, UNC's Drake Maye, Michigan's J.J. McCarthy). Of note, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated has the former three QB's going first through third, with McCarthy potential going No. 4 after an unknown team trades up with the Arizona Cardinals.

That in turn leaves the Broncos picking the fifth QB on many big boards at No. 12 overall, and that may not be the best use of the team's value at that spot, especially with other blue chip prospects out there.

Turner is one of them. He's ranked No. 12 overall on the last B/R NFL Scouting Department big board (second among edge-rushers). Turner could be a huge help to the Broncos, who endured some struggles on defense en route to finishing No. 27 in scoring on that side of the ball.

Ultimately, Denver is an interesting team to watch as the draft rapidly approaches on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
