A Marine who died Tuesday evening during what were described as “routine military operations” at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton has been identified, according to the Marine Corps.

Cpl. Miguel A. Maya, a 23-year-old U/AH-1 aircraft avionics technician, died around 5 p.m. “as a result of an aviation ground mishap,” the Marine Corps said in a statement. No one else was injured, and the incident remains under investigation.

Maya was a native of Texas and part of the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 303, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.

“My heartfelt condolences go out to Cpl. Maya’s loved ones during this difficult time,” Lt. Col. Jason Caster, commanding officer of HMLAT-303, said in a statement. “Our priority right now is taking care of the family of our fallen Marine, and ensuring the well-being of our Marines and their loved ones.”

His death comes after a Marine died and 14 others were injured in December when an amphibious combat vehicle rolled over at the training camp. And in August, one Marine died after participating in live-fire training.
