Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of Tiger Woods, is playing in a local qualifying event for the 2024 U.S. Open this week in Florida.

Woods is one of 84 players in the tournament at Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in in Port St. Lucie. The top-five finishers from that event will advance to a 36-hole qualifier for June's U.S. Open.

Woods previously attempted to qualify for the 2024 Cognizant Classic. He shot a 16-over 86 in his qualifying round and did not make the field.

Tiger and Charlie Woods have played pro-am events together in recent years, drawing massive crowds as interest grows in the younger Woods' attempt to follow in his father's footsteps.

"There's so much of the noise in our lives that people are always trying to get stuff out of us," Tiger Woods said in December. "And my job as a parent is to protect him from a lot of that stuff.

"(But) as a teenager I want him to try and become his own man at the same time. So it's a challenge as a parent and to provide that atmosphere for him to learn, to grow, and have that freedom, meanwhile understanding that there's so much noise looking into our lives at the same time."

Only time will tell if Charlie Woods is able to step onto the course full time and compete on the PGA Tour. As it stands now, he still has another half-decade before he's the age his father was when he turned pro.
