Six quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday, but there are still options for teams looking for signal-callers in the later rounds.

Some of those options were big names in the college ranks, including Sam Hartman and Jordan Travis.

While Hartman and Travis are headline names since they played at Notre Dame and Florida State, respectively, they likely won't be targeted as franchise signal-callers in the NFL. After all, B/R's NFL Scouting Department didn't project either of them as a selection in the first three rounds of its mock draft earlier this month.

It listed Hartman as the 293rd-best player available in its latest big board of the top 300 prospects, which did not include Travis.

So, finding teams that need late-round depth at the position is the ideal strategy for projecting landing spots for Hartman and Travis. With that in mind, here are a couple options.

Las Vegas Raiders

A quarterback room of Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew II isn't exactly the league's best for the Las Vegas Raiders, and going to the AFC West team would give either rookie the opportunity to learn under a veteran who has been both a backup and starter throughout his career in Minshew.

Such a learning opportunity would be ideal for Travis, who is something of a health concern.

The 23-year-old told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine he "should be ready" by May or June ahead of his first season.

He suffered a fractured leg in November, which hovered over the College Football Playoff committee's decision to leave his undefeated Florida State team out of the field. It also ended what was an excellent season that saw him win the 2023 ACC Offensive Player of the Year while completing 63.9 percent of his passes for 2,756 yards, 20 touchdowns and two interceptions.

The talent is there, but he may need some time to fully adjust to NFL defenses and a recovery from a significant injury.

Playing for the Raiders could help him do just that, as he would have weapons to work with in preseason in Davante Adams and Brock Bowers and a veteran signal-caller to help him along the way.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams have a more stable quarterback room than the Raiders with Matthew Stafford, but he is 36 years old. What's more, Stetson Bennett is the backup for now but didn't appear in a single game during the 2023 campaign.

It wouldn't be a shock if the Rams drafted a rookie in the later rounds and allowed him to compete for the backup role behind the veteran.

Hartman has the talent to potentially win that role.

The 24-year-old started his collegiate career in the ACC at Wake Forest and threw for 4,228 yards in 2021 and 3,701 yards in 2022. Finding that version of himself would help at the next level, as his numbers dipped some in his one season at Notre Dame when he completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 2,689 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Still, either he or Travis could learn under Stafford for multiple seasons and potentially carve out a role as a trusted backup for a Rams team looking to return to the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.
