The Detroit Lions have selected Missouri cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. with the 61st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
While Rakestraw was a common pairing to the Lions due to his physical playstyle and fearlessness on the field, this is quite a surprise. The Lions selected Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold in the first round, and have now doubled up on the position.
This offseason, the Lions have made massive changes to the cornerback room.
Added:
- CB Carlton Davis (via trade)
- CB Amik Robertson (free agency)
- CB Terrion Arnold (draft)
- CB Ennis Rakestraw (draft)
Lost:
- CB Cameron Sutton (cut)
- CB Jerry Jacobs
For a team that ranked among the worst in pass defense, it’s not surprising to see the Lions go cornerback in the draft, but some will wonder if this is a bit of overkill at the position.
The Lions now have a massive gap in the draft, currently not holding a pick until 164 overall (fifth round).
