A scuba diver was in critical condition Friday afternoon after the Seattle Fire Department received a distress call about a diver at a Magnuson Park swimming beach.

Fire crews responded to the park on Sand Point Way Northeast around 2 p.m., after the 43-year-old man’s diving partner reported he had not been seen in over an hour, Fire Department spokesperson Kaila Lafferty said in an email.

People on a private boat found the missing diver floating in the lake and pulled them on board. They attempted lifesaving measures until they got to shore and fire department crews took over. The diver was then taken to Virginia Mason Medical Center in critical condition.
