The Patriots are building towards their future in the 2024 NFL Draft, and with their first two selections, they put together a new young quarterback-receiver duo.

New England took UNC QB Drake Maye third overall on Thursday night, and followed it up with WR Ja’Lynn Polk as their 37th overall selection.

During his introductory Zoom call with media members, Polk seemed overjoyed to be drafted alongside Maye and play with him in New England.

“The guy’s electric. He goes out there and he’s able to make plays for his team. He’s a great guy, an awesome player,” Polk said of Maye. “I’m excited to be able to get to work with him.”

Maye seemed to share the excitement of having a receiver like Polk at his disposal. The Patriots’ QB of the future took to X to share his joy over the selection, writing “Stud!! Let’s work” followed by a fire emoji.

Though Maye could sit behind veteran QB Jacoby Brissett before he gets an NFL start, Polk will likely be plugged in right away alongside the likes of Kendrick Bourne and DeMario Douglas. Bourne will be a somewhat familiar face for Polk, who met the Patriots receiver via Zoom early in Polk’s days at Washington.

“He came in there and gave us some advice on how to work hard, continuously build on your craft and get better each day,” Polk said of Bourne. “So, I can’t wait to go out there with him, JuJu [Smith-Schuster], and those other guys to pick at their game.”
