— Good burst and acceleration. Kicks into high gear quickly through the line of scrimmage, especially when on the perimeter.

— Elite breakaway speed. Zips through the second level, rarely caught from behind.

— Effective one-cut ability. Good lateral agility to make a defender miss.

— Solid eyes and effort in pass protection.

— Patient to a fault. Too often waits for the perfect rushing lane and allows things to get muddied.

— Stops his feet behind the line of scrimmage. Stuttering runner until he can stride out in space.

— Runs upright and lacks power. Often stopped in his tracks when taken on head up.

— Does not run with a lot of command or nastiness. Relatively passive runner who waits for the home run opportunity.

OVERALL

Jaylen Wright is a bundle of speed and explosiveness.

Wright's burst is obvious as soon as he gets near the line of scrimmage. He can fly through the line when he sees an open lane or is allowed to stretch a play out to the perimeter. Wright can really kick into high gear quickly, especially on the outside.

Wright's 4.38 speed is no joke, either. Time and again, he bursts through the second level of the defense and separates himself from any remaining defenders. Right ripped off three 50-plus-yard runs in 2023, which is remarkable for someone who carried the ball only 137 times.

Wright can make you miss in space as well. He isn't the most fluid, flexible runner, but he has serious lateral explosiveness. He can jump-cut right across a defender's face and leave them whiffing at air.

However, Wright's rushing style is reliant on obviously open lanes or being able to bounce outside into space. He is not a polished, commanding runner between the tackles. He often stops his feet and hops around until it's too late, letting every lane close before choosing one. Wright is not the type of runner who wants to plunge forward for a guaranteed three yards if 10 yards may be on the table with a little more patience.

Wright is not a powerful runner, either. He runs high and does not attack downhill with much strength. Wright is not the type of runner to gain extra bits of yardage by dragging defenders forward, nor is he the type to bounce defenders off consistently.

Wright is an exciting dice roll on explosive talent. His burst and long speed are dangerous. However, Wright will need to develop his decision-making and strength as a runner before he blossoms into a full-time role.

Wright would fit best in a shotgun offense as a change-of-pace back, similar to how the Baltimore Ravens use Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell.
