The Philadelphia Eagles tied an NFL record by making eight trades in the seven-round draft era (dating back to 1994).

As for why the Eagles were wheeling and dealing, general manager Howie Roseman explained it as follows to reporters (h/t ESPN's Tim McManus): "To get as many of the guys that we targeted on Day 3 as we possibly can and at the same time see if we can accumulate picks for the future."

Here's a look at all of the Eagles' eight trades, tying the record set by the 2018 New England Patriots and 2023 Houston Texans.

Trades

  • No. 50, No. 53, and No. 161 to Washington Commanders for No. 40, No. 78, and No. 152
  • No. 78 to Houston Texans for No. 86 and No. 123
  • No. 86 to San Francisco 49ers for No. 94 and No. 132
  • No. 120 to Miami Dolphins for 2025 third-round pick
  • No. 123 to Houston Texans for No. 127 and 2025 5th-round pick
  • No. 132 and No. 210 to Detroit Lions for No. 164, No. 201 and 2025 fourth-round pick
  • No. 164 and No. 201 to Indianapolis Colts for No. 155
  • No. 171 to New York Jets for No. 185 and No. 190

Those trades helped amount to this 2024 draft class:

The most notable trade occurred with the Washington Commanders, when the Eagles moved up 10 spots in the second round to select Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean, who was widely projected as a Round 1 pick.

The Eagles also moved up in the fifth round to take Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the son of ex-Philadelphia linebacker/franchise legend Jeremiah Trotter.

The other six trades either saw the Eagles trade down (five moves) or trade out (a fourth-rounder to the Miami Dolphins for a 2025 third-rounder).

On paper, this looks like a very strong class for the Eagles, who have addressed some big needs and received some quality talent at great value. We'll see how they'll develop soon enough as offseason workouts approach shortly.
