Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards, the annual celebration of Broadway theater excellence, were announced Tuesday morning in New York City. And these theater artists with Western Washington ties are among the nominees.

Broadway veteran David Zinn, an in-demand stage designer who grew up on Bainbridge Island and has worked with ACT Theatre, Seattle Rep and other local companies, is celebrating a rare feat of three Tony nods in one year. Two are for scenic design, in the Tony-nominated new plays “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding” and “Stereophonic.” The third is for costume design, in a hit revival of Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People.” (Zinn has previously won two Tony Awards.)

Shoshana Bean, also a Broadway veteran, was born in Olympia and raised mainly in Portland, before launching her Broadway career as a leading performer in “Wicked” and other musicals. She is nominated for her featured performance in “Hell’s Kitchen,” an acclaimed new musical inspired by the songs and life story of pop artist Alicia Keys.

In addition, M.L. Dogg, a University of Washington assistant professor of sound design, was nominated, with Cody Spencer, for best sound design of a musical for their work on “Here Lies Love.”

The 77th Tony Awards ceremony will air at 5 p.m. June 16 on CBS.

This story was updated to include the nomination of M.L. Dogg.
