With the 2024 NFL Draft over, another wave of free agency is upon us, and one former Detroit Lions could be on the move. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, cornerback Jerry Jacobs is taking a visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacobs was one of the best feel-good stories for the Lions early in the Dan Campbell era. Jacobs’ hard work and tenacious play on the field led him to making the team’s 53-man roster in 2021 as an undrafted rookie. When the injury bug hit the position for Detroit, Jacobs eventually stepped in and started nine games in his rookie season, tallying seven pass breakups and a forced fumble that season.

Over the next two years, the Lions tried to upgrade the cornerback position, but Jacobs still fought his way onto the field. He would end up starting 20 more games for Detroit, finishing his Lions career with 23 passes defended, four interceptions, and 131 tackles over three seasons.

With immense struggles in the secondary toward the end of 2023, the Lions eventually benched Jacobs, then ended his season on injured reserve. This entire offseason, the Lions have made aggressive moves to overhaul their cornerback room. They traded a third-round pick for Carlton Davis, signed Amik Robertson in free agency, and spent their first two draft picks on the cornerback position (Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw Jr.) in last week’s NFL Draft.

Jacobs is one of a handful of Lions free agents who could find a home before free agency is over. Defensive end Charles Harris, defensive tackle Tyson Alualu, defensive back Will Harris, and safety Tracy Walker are all still available.
