Lions News: Awesome video shows Penei Sewell reacting to his 2021 self

The Detroit Lions’ production team outdid themselves again, creating this amazing video of 2024 Penei Sewell reacting to 2021 Penei Sewell.

Back when the 2021 NFL Draft was rolling around, there was a lot of chatter about which direction the Detroit Lions should go in. General manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell were newly hired and facing an extremely daunting task in front of them — rebuild the Lions’ roster and turn it into a perennial contender. Certainly easier said than done.

However, something happened the night of the draft that made their lives and decision much easier. Offensive tackle Penei Sewell, who was viewed as one of the best tackle prospects to enter the draft in recent memory, slid to them at seventh overall.

Yelling, aggressive hugs, and flying pens followed before Holmes made his selection so fast that the NFL had a chat with him about it afterwards. Sewell was going to be a Lion and the first building block in constructing a winner.

Fast-forward a few years to the present day and the Lions are one of the best teams in the NFL, with Sewell being arguably (not in argument to me but that is a discussion for another day) the best tackle in football.

And, per usual, the Lions’ social media and production team were in their bags. On May 1, 2021, they sat down a newly-drafted Sewell and asked him several questions. Three year laster, shortly after he signed a contract extension that made him the highest-paid tackle in the league, they sat down Sewell again to answer the same questions, as well as watch the footage of his answers as a 20-year-old rookie.

The result was some amazing, thoughtful, S-tier content that may invoke some emotional feelings upon watching.

And now, onto the rest of today’s notes:

  • So I guess we know where the Lions’ social media team falls as it pertains to a certain ongoing rap-feud. As usual, they do not miss.

  • I can’t lie. Hearing Lions’ rookie offensive lineman Giovanni Manu say that he looks up to Sewell has me feeling extra ancient.

  • April really was a month for the record books.

  • Confirmed that All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams knows ball.

  • Lions All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was interviewed by USA Today Sports’ Mackenzie Salmon where he touched on his own personal goals for the 2024 season.

  • Pretty cool stat unearthed here by friend of the program Jon Ledyard about new Lions’ running back Sione Vaki.
