Two years after the death of a toddler from a methadone overdose, his father has been charged with manslaughter, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Donald Humes, 32 of Onset, is charged with one count of manslaughter and two counts of reckless endangerment of a child following a “lengthy” and “in-depth” investigation of his son’s death, officials said in a press release. His child, 2-year-old Cameron Humes, was found to have methadone in his system, according to the release.
Hames called Wareham police on April 24, 2022, telling them Cameron was unresponsive and not breathing inside their house at Waban Avenue, according to the release.
First responders performed life-saving procedures on Cameron before he was transported to Tobey Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
The State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Cameron’s manner of death to be acute methadone intoxication, according to the D.A.’s office.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the Wareham Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.
