Young mothers at risk of homelessness after D.C. program is denied funding

Program leaders have until July 1 to raise enough money to keep the homes open, or else five mothers and their babies will be displaced.

Traci Bryant remembers walking into her new bedroom for the first time, her hands placed on her pregnant belly.

Her bed — in the biggest room in the house — was already made. On top were towels, deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush. There was a crib, with white sheets that read “I love you.”
