Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.

Rollins Reportedly Re-Signs with WWE

Amid rumors that his WWE contract was about to expire, Seth Rollins has reportedly signed a new deal to stay with the company.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Rollins' new WWE contract is "several years" in length and includes a "significant financial package."

Back in December, Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp reported that Rollins' deal was slated to expire in June. Sapp also reported that Rollins' wife, women's world champion Becky Lynch, was set to see her contract come up in June as well.

Although no report has surfaced regarding Lynch signing a new pact yet, it seems likely that Rollins re-signing increases the chances of The Man doing the same significantly.

The 37-year-old Rollins, who signed with WWE in 2010, has carved out a Hall of Fame career for himself since getting called up to the main roster in 2012.

He has consistently been among WWE's top stars since then as evidenced by his five world title reigns, including a run of over 300 days as world heavyweight champion from last year into this year.

Rollins suffered a knee injury during a title defense against Jinder Mahal in January, which put his WrestleMania status in question.

The Visionary managed to return shortly before 'Mania, and he pulled double duty at the Show of Shows, losing a tag team match with Cody Rhodes against The Rock and Roman Reigns on Night 1, and then dropping the world title to Drew McIntyre on Night 2.

Rollins was clearly favoring his knee at. WrestleMania, and it was reported by Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio that he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus afterward.

It is unclear when Rollins will be back in action, but with his new contract in tow, he has many years ahead of him in WWE.

Rumored Idea for Rock vs. Reigns Before WrestleMania 40

The Rock and Roman Reigns teamed up at WrestleMania 40, but there was reportedly a unique idea involving them discussed by the creative team beforehand.

According to Meltzer (h/t Wrestle Features), the possibility of The Rock beating Reigns for the undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania was discussed. In that scenario, The Rock would have vacated the title afterward and gone back to Hollywood.

Instead, Reigns and The Rock beat Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania 40, which made Reigns vs. Rhodes on Night 2 a Bloodline Rules match.

There was a ton of interference, including The Rock getting involved on Reigns' behalf, but Rhodes prevailed and ended Reigns' title run of over 1,300 days.

On the Raw after WrestleMania, The Rock told Cody he would be coming for him, which suggests The Rock vs. Rhodes is in the cards when The Final Boss returns from his outside commitments.

For a time, it looked as though WWE was going to have The Rock face Reigns at WrestleMania, but less than one week after WWE teased that match, Rhodes announced his intention to face Reigns, and The Rock turned heel by aligning himself with Reigns.

From there, WWE delivered some of the best and most compelling content it had in years, so turning The Rock heel rather than going against Reigns seemed to be the right move.

Also, it allowed fans to enjoy one of the biggest feel-good moments in WWE history, as Rhodes finally finished his story by beating Reigns for the WWE title.

Rumors on Plans for Rhodes as WWE Champion

Cody Rhodes is finally atop the wrestling world as undisputed WWE champion, but there reportedly aren't any grand plans for him and his title reign in the near future.

According to Meltzer (h/t WrestleTalk), Rhodes doesn't have a "big-time direction" for The American Nightmare until The Rock and Roman Reigns return to the fold.

Since returning to WWE two years ago, Rhodes made it clear that his ultimate goal was to win the WWE title. Fans quickly got behind him as a result, and his pursuit of the championship made everything he did feel like a big deal.

Rhodes finished his story at WrestleMania by beating Reigns for the undisputed WWE Championship in the main event, but it still isn't abundantly clear what direction he is heading in during the aftermath.

At Backlash on Saturday, Rhodes will defend the WWE Championship against AJ Styles. It should be a great match between two top-flight in-ring competitors, but there isn't a ton of heat behind the match since they haven't really been feuding.

That could be a common refrain for Rhodes in the coming months, as WWE will likely want him to defend the title regularly to differentiate him from Reigns, who only defended occasionally.

Of course, there is plenty of talent on SmackDown, and with the proper writing and booking, WWE can build up viable challengers and create some intriguing storylines involving Rhodes.

However, there is no doubt that fans are clamoring to see what will happen when The Rock and Reigns return, so it can be argued that anything else Rhodes is involved with will pale in comparison.
