Gray Zone Warfare has sold over half a million copies on Steam in just four days after its surprise launch earlier this week.
Developers MADFINGER Games announced the 500,000 sales figure earlier today, just four days after the launch of Gray Zone Warfare. In a press release they revealed that along with over half a million sales of the base game, over 250,000 people also purchased a more expensive edition of the game that gives extra in-game bonuses.
These DLC editions start at $57.99 for the Tactical Edition, before rising to $79.99 for the Elite Edition and then topping out at $99.99 for the Supporter Edition. While sales figures for each addition have not been released, with over half the total sales also including a DLC edition you can expect MADFINGER to have made a decent chunk of cash from the first week of sales.
With so many people purchasing Gray Zone Warfare, it quickly rose to the top of the Steam charts, knocking fellow indie sensation Manor Lords off the top spot earlier in the week. While the Steam Deck has again claimed the top seller spot on Steam at the time of writing, Gray Zone Warfare remains the top-selling game on the platform.
In the press release announcing the impressive sales figures, the development team also announced that another hot fix patch is on the way and expected to land early next week. There is currently no word on exactly what the patch will include, but given the last hot fix gave us the option to change factions, you can expect it will likely tackle other annoying issues players have found.
The response to Gray Zone Warfare has no doubt increased due to the backlash Escape From Tarkov received over its controversial $250 edition and multiple backtracks on what features would be opened up to players who previously purchased the season pass. With many players hurt by the moves Battlestate Games made it presented a great opportunity for Gray Zone Warfare to sweep in and provide a roughly similar game for the players looking for an alternative to Tarkov.
So far Gray Zone Warfare has been great providing you can get through the opening tasks without losing all your gear and money. While there is a lot to learn when you first boot up, once you get into the swing of things and start to take on more difficult tasks it really finds its own and becomes an incredibly fun experience. However, players have started to camp landing zones again, which still probably needs to be prevented somehow.
