Report: Odell Beckham Jr., Dolphins Agree to 1-Year, $3M Contract in Free Agency

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and the Miami Dolphins reportedly agreed to a one-year contract in free agency on Friday.

According to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, Beckham's deal is worth $3 million guaranteed and can reach a maximum value of $8.25 million.

This marks the third consecutive offseason that Beckham has hit free agency. He went unsigned in 2022 and missed the entire season due to a torn ACL, and he signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens last offseason.

Beckham tore his ACL in the Los Angeles Rams' Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals in February 2022. While he toyed with the idea of signing with a team during the 2022 campaign, he ultimately sat out the year.

The 31-year-old veteran did enough to show he was recovered and to earn a hefty one-year contract with the Ravens last offseason, and he was fairly productive despite a somewhat limited role.

In 14 regular-season games (including six starts), Beckham caught 35 of 64 targets for 565 yards and three touchdowns for a Ravens team that won the AFC North and was the No. 1 seed in the AFC. He also contributed four receptions for 34 yards in two playoff games, which included a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

Although OBJ's numbers didn't jump off the screen, he was tied for third on the Ravens in receptions and was second on the team in receiving yardage last season. He was a top target for quarterback Lamar Jackson, who won his second NFL MVP award last season.

Earlier in his career, Beckham was among the most dominant wide receivers in football. The No. 12 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft was named a Pro Bowler in each of his first three NFL seasons with the New York Giants.

Over his first three campaigns, Beckham averaged 96 catches for 1,374 yards and nearly 12 touchdowns per season.

However, injuries caught up with him in subsequent years. While he did barely top the 1,000-yard mark in 2018 with the Giants and 2019 with the Cleveland Browns, he struggled to reclaim his trademark explosiveness.

While Beckham isn't likely to ever play at the level he did early in his career again, the Dolphins are hoping he can be a solid complementary player on a winning team, just like he was in 2021 with the Rams and 2023 with the Ravens.

In Miami, Beckham is joining one of the most explosive offenses in the league. There won't be a ton of pressure on him to be a featured part of it, either. He figures to settle in as the No. 3 receiver behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, which should ensure plenty of single coverage on the outside.

Beckham isn't likely to put up huge numbers playing third fiddle, but he gives the Dolphins another dynamic weapon who can make plays down the field and adds another dimension to Miami's passing game.
