Luis Arráez is reportedly heading to the San Diego Padres after the Miami Marlins traded him for reliever Woo-Suk Go and prospects Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee, and Nathan Martorella, per ESPN's Jorge Castillo.

Castillo noted that the trade is expected to be finalized soon and is pending a medical review.

With Arráez reportedly joining the Padres, here's a look at the team's updated lineup and payroll.

San Diego Padres Updated Lineup

  1. Luis Arráez DH
  2. Fernando Tatís Jr. RF
  3. Jake Cronenworth 1B
  4. Manny Machado 3B
  5. Jurickson Profar LF
  6. Xander Bogaerts 2B
  7. Jackson Merrill CF
  8. Luis Campusano C
  9. Ha-Seong Kim SS

Before the Arráez trade, the Padres had an estimated total payroll of $227.4 million, per Spotrac, and the six-year veteran has a $10.6 million salary in 2024, so San Diego will be around $238 million this year. That figure would give the Padres the 10th-highest payroll in the majors.

Arráez, who was traded to Miami ahead of the 2023 season, notched 203 hits, 10 home runs and 69 RBI last year, recording an NL-best .354 batting average. He also became the first Marlin since 2017 to notch 200 hits in a season last year.

He has started the 2024 campaign with 41 hits and five RBI in 137 at-bats and a .299 batting average.

The Padres have had a shaky start to the season, sitting at 16-18 on the year, but they're hoping to hit their stride with the addition of Arráez. San Diego has been solid on offense with a .250 team batting average, which ranks sixth in the majors, but has struggled in the pitching department. The Padres' 4.29 team ERA is the eighth worst in MLB.

But with hitters like Fernando Tatís Jr., Manny Machado and now Arráez, San Diego might be able to ride its offense back to the postseason after missing out last year.
